Sea, Sex and... Seine

DISCOVERY

- 22/07/2022 -

« Sur la plage abandonnée… Coquillages et crustacés », « Paris tropi, tropi, tropi chaud, Un Paris s'étale sur les terrasses » from Brigitte Bardot's La Madrague to the band Minuit's Paris Tropical, there is only one step. While Paris Plage has just opened its doors, LAPS takes you to a summer version of the city of lights.

Paris Plage where does it come from ?

Body-painting and turboprop for swimming, who said you couldn't have funny summer in Paris? By digging into the INA archives, we rediscovered a 1952 Seine riverfront that looked like a Mediterranean beach. Sands, umbrellas, deckchairs and palm trees, the seaside traditions of Paris are nothing new.

However it' s only in 2002 that the operation Paris Plage was born, led by the mayor of the time Bertrand Delanoë. The goal? Giving to the parisians and to the curious tourists  the possibility of practicing leisure activities as on the coast.

This year, for the 20th anniversary of the event, tai chi classes, calisthenics, table soccer, petanque, and libraries outside the walls are invited on the banks of the Seine. A program just like in a vacation club to enjoy from July 9 to August 21.

A French-style influence

More than ever the city of light is preparing to be brought under the spotlight or should we say the Olympic flame... Paris 2024 is emerging as a new event destination. National pride, the city is getting a makeover to become the capital of sport for a season. Cock-a-doodle-doo and "Allez la France"!

But while waiting for 2024, this summer the renewal of the "French Touch" is already being celebrated at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann. From July 5 to August 31, the department store will honor the most emblematic brands, personalities and collectives of today's "French Touch".

Under the Art Nouveau Cupola, which is celebrating its 110th anniversary, and on the digital site, a selection of emblematic brands of the French Touch is highlighted alongside artists and collectives bringing new life to traditional know-how.

For the occasion, one of our most Parisian models is honored. The iconic Signature. Barbès is wearing its most beautiful cobalt blue bracelet and rubs shoulders with top brands and other young labels with the same motto: the French Touch is celebrating!
